About
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination 2026 notification (F. No. E1/32/026-C-2) on 24 April 2026 for approximately 731 tentative vacancies across various Ministries/Departments/Organizations of Govt. of India. Candidates who have passed 12th Standard from a recognised Board with mandatory stenography skill can apply online at ssc.gov.in from 24 April to 15 May 2026. Exam tentatively scheduled for July–August 2026.
⚠️ Vacancies are tentative (731). Exact category-wise and post-wise details will be updated on ssc.gov.in. State/Zone-wise vacancies are NOT collected by SSC — candidates will be posted All India Service Liability (AISL).

Selection Process

Computer Based Examination (CBE) — 200 Marks
3 sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50), General Awareness (50), English (100). Negative marking: -0.25 per wrong answer. Qualifying: 30% UR / 25% OBC-EWS / 20% Others.

Skill Test in Stenography — Qualifying
Grade C: 100 WPM | Grade D: 80 WPM. 10-minute dictation passage. Transcription in English or Hindi on computer. Pass marks: 40% (UR/EWS) | 35% (Others). Marks not counted in final merit.

Document Verification (DV)
Conducted by User Departments after final shortlisting. All original certificates must be produced. Any discrepancy leads to cancellation of candidature.

Pre-Employment Medical Exam
Especially applicable for BRO (Border Roads Organisation) Grade D posts. Males only for BRO; Physical Efficiency Test (PET) also required for BRO posts.
Final Merit: Based only on CBE marks (category-wise). No interview. Skill Test is purely qualifying. Sliding mechanism applies for FRTA cases — no separate waiting list maintained by SSC.
